Don’t confuse effort with results!  Don’t Give Up Too Soon!

You need to make sure you’re following a very strict 90 day plan.  If you stick to a 90 day program and you monitor and log your progress, you’ll be able to visually see where you need to adjust your strategy to scale up your business.  If you can get one person to sign up in your home business and if you can get one customer go purchase or try your product, you can easily scale that up to hundreds if not thousands of people.  But you have to follow a plan and be prepared to grow your business.  You don’t want to build a house of cards that will collapse as your business starts to expand.

The reason we say don’t confuse effort with results is very simple.  If you’re doing something over and over with no results or the same results, you’re waisting your time and you’re not doing something correct.  This is a copy cat business.  The wheel has already been invented, grab the wheel put it on your car and take off.

Remember that in order to make the money you’re not used to making, you’re going to have to learn to do things you’re not used to doing.  You don’t have to be perfect on your approach, don’t over analyze things, just get off your ass and copy the leaders.  Over time, you’ll perfect your approach and little by little you’ll develop your own unique style.

Just wanted to share this story about an Air Force mom that wrote a few weeks ago on the subject of finding a way to make money from home while her husband and daughter serve our country overseas.

Ok, I’ve never written anything online about my personal life, but I had to in this case.

OMG! What a pie fiasco. My daughter is in Tech school right now then she is going to the UK for 4 years. All I wanted to do was get her favorite apple pie to her for the holidays. I take it to the shipping place in my neighbor hood and pay $150 dollars to get her package there the next day. Because of a national service disruption through FedEx my pie did not get to my daughter until 3 days later.  Thank goodness making money from home paid for the shipping cost of my pie.

It’s been very hard to find a way to help my family during these tough times.  My husband is on another tour of duty, serving our country.  I’m so proud of him, but paying the bills was really stressing me out.  I’ve been toying around with different things trying to make a buck here and there.  I was just thinking of throwing in the towel with this work from home wish of mine when I stumbled upon something interesting.

We speculate that February is a good month to start promoting your business because the holidays are over and everyone has started receiving those Christmas credit card bills wondering what to do next.  Everybody sets new years resolutions about losing weight and making more money and it’s now time to do something about it.  It’s like a wake up call one month after.

I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to take advantage of any technology at my disposal to help my business grow over the last 25 years.  Today more than any other time in history anybody can start a home base business in as little as 5 minutes for very little money.  People here in the U.S. don’t realize that in most other countries it’s an ordeal to start a business.  Here, now with the internet I can show anybody how to start a business and be in the money within one week.  All it takes is effort.

Does it take money to make money? If and that’s a big if… you were to get let’s say a .20¢ raise this year, that amount per year would not even cover the price increase of gasoline which means that you’re actually making less money.  If that raise throws you into a higher tax bracket, then you’re even poorer than last year owing uncle sam.

Don’t take me wrong, anything is better than nothing, but to make a difference you need to have a massive change that will propel your income exponentially over time.

Show your downline what you know, share this book and become a teacher.  The faster you become a teacher, the faster you will become a leader that people will respect and they will follow you to the top.  This is all part of attraction marketing.  Everyone wants to learn how to provide for themselves and for their families.  There is a bible quote that goes as follows:  “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, show him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”

Because we are living in exponential times, I’ve changed it to say…

“Show them how to fish and your great grandchildren’s grandchildren will eat for a lifetime!”

The key to creating momentum is through the process of paying it forward.  We all grow as a team, you can’t do this alone, it doesn’t work that way! In all my years as a network marketer, I follow the same rules every time.  I believe in my philosophy of Learn, Earn and Pay it Forward.  I have always built very strong organization because I always start working with only 2 people (if in a binary) or 5 people if in a different comp plan.  I always take the time to make sure my first few people are sponsoring people and making money before I move on.  I give them a couple of weeks to get going, I train them, I do 3 way calls, webinars, what ever it takes to get them off their feet.

It doesn’t do me any good if I sponsor people and they do not learn to duplicate.  They will never make any money and neither will I.  Some sponsors tell their people to go nuts and sponsor as many people as possible.  While I believe in creating momentum, one of two things will happen is you by chance are able to sponsor a lot of people very quickly.

One, you will be very fortunate that you have an upline that actually knows what they are doing.  The odds are they don’t.  In this industry most people are sponsored by friends and family that don’t have much more experience than you do.  If you bring in a lot of people and they don’t have a system to plug into to help them build their business and duplicate, you will be building a house of cards that will collapse in approximately 90 days.

Two, you work with smaller groups of people, you build strong, train strong and learn to build a foundation that will sustain your growth.

Don’t get me wrong.  We’re all in it to win it. We all want to make a lot of money, but you have to understand that there is a process behind the madness.  The difference between people that make $500 per week vs. those that make $5,000 per week in this industry is having a duplicatable process.  Don’t get all caught in the hype, and by the same token don’t suffer from paralysis from analysis.  Keep it simple, get a couple of people moving before you go crazy telling the whole world about your opportunity.  Trust me… there are millions of new prospects that are looking for an opportunity.

You were invited to a business opportunity either at a hotel or someone’s home.  They presented this awesome product where they claim nobody else has… maybe it was a dietary supplement that has the most anti-oxidants of anything on the market, or maybe they sold vacation packages…. (the product is irrelevant).  In some cases there might have been a very dynamic speaker or even worse, some normal Joe or Jane and you’re thinking to yourself “Hmm, if they didn’t, so can I”.  You probably signed up, left the event all fired up, got home and you’re spouse said WHAT! and you’re thinking to yourself…. Now What? My spouse is all pissed off at me and I don’t know what to do next.  All my sponsor said was “Don’t worry I’ll help you build your business” or “Just make a list of 20 friends and family and we’ll help you sign them up.”

It’s ok, you’re not going to go broke.  It would have been better that you did some research first or even tried the product to see if this was something that you could sink your teeth into.  But before you start calling all your friends (maybe you already called them for another opportunity that didn’t work out), you need to understand the basics of how network marketing works and why certain individuals make money while others don’t.

It’s a great business to be in but don’t get caught up in all they hype thinking you’re missing out on something.  Most importantly don’t become a serial network marketer, jumping from company to company.  This is the fastest way to burning out everyone around you and coming off like a snake oil sales person.

In this short article, I’m going to demonstrate how to make money in this business of network marketing and I’m also going to show you how to lose money.  You need to understand the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  Most sponsors will only show you the good, but if you understand the Bad and the Ugly, you will succeed and you will be able to pass on these network marketing secrets to your downline.

Most people lose money because they approach this as an easy way to make quick money and they forget to build a foundation that will help them generate income for life.  Essentially most people build or are part of a house of cards that crumbles at the first sign of the “Now What” thought that starts to eat at your brain cells”.

Deciding what type of home business to start can be quite the decision to make.  Some of you will go on Google and search for home based business reviews and home based business ideas all to get thousands of pages from individuals trying to get you into their programs.  It’s very overwhelming.

So what separates a home based business scam from a legitimate home based business?  You will have to do some basic research and not just jump on the first page you see thinking you’ve found the one or found the next big thing.  I’ll tell you a little secret that you can keep between you and I.  There is no next big thing.  Why…. because you are the next big thing.

People buy into businesses or business opportunities first and foremost because of the person speaking to them about it.  The second reason people join a business opportunity is because of the system or the belief that there is a system.

If you jump aboard a network marketing program, the system of 99% of those companies has not changed since its inception 50 years ago.  They refer to it as a belly to belly business.  Meaning that you grow you business through word of mouth.  While this is still true today, things have changed over the last 50 years.

On the internet we are now doing business at the speed of thought.  The internet almost destroyed the home based business industry because anyone with a computer that could type and write a little bit of code started spamming everyone on the planet about their one of a kind business opportunity that was the net big thing.  There were thousands of get rich quick schemes being created every week.

I’m here to tell you that by experience I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly of this industry.  I’ll get into that a little more in another article, but what I will tell you is that the good of this industry is VERY GOOD!

Most people trying to build their business with the help of the internet have it all wrong.  By using a system of attraction marketing (like what is taught at Downline University) you develop a way branding yourself to the point that people seek you out for advice and help on building their business.  Think about it as a form of digital belly to belly.

When you start a home business that uses the model of network marketing you need to market yourself and your system of marketing vs. marketing the product.  I’ll explain why.  Let’s say you jump aboard a new diet product, you’ve used it with results, you’re all excited and want to share with the world how much weight you lost.  Let me ask you a quick questions…  how do you think everyone else who had the same results with the product is marketing or telling people about the same business opportunity?  Everyone is saying the same thing and if you cannot connect with that person looking at your opportunity, they will move on to someone that will and join under them.  So in a sense you’re advertising for the competition.  You have to be and offer something different.

You see, you need to market yourself different in order to stand out.  You need to plug into a system like Downline University that will teach you how to brand yourself without marketing your product directly.  People are told by their uplines in the business that they must use the products religiously and have a passion for their company in order to succeed.  They are not wrong, BUT… all you’re doing is following the status quo which isn’t always on target.  I explain why in my next secret.

If you were to take away all the money of the top income earners in your particular network marketing company and asked them to start from scratch using the techniques that they claimed got them there… over 90% would not be able to recreate their wealth.

The reason is that a large percentage of top income earners jumped aboard a company where they were able to leverage their results on the momentum and excitement of that company’s growth.  The rest of the bunch were fortunate to have found a few runners (people in their downlines) that took off with the business and through the model of residual income benefitted.  We all want this to happen to us and if you stay plugging away in your new business venture, eventually it will happen.  The only way to fail is by quitting.

The reason attraction marketing has become so popular in marketing a business opportunity without promoting a product is that that we realized something very interesting over the years.  For anybody that has ever seen any of my presentations, you’ll notice the same pattern in that I only mention the company by name early in the presentation and don’t really talk about the company, products and or compensation until the very end and only for a few minutes.  I almost always ask during the first part of the presentation… “Who is here to learn about the product…. a few raise their hands, then I ask, Who here wants to see how we make money using this company as a vehicle?”  Almost everyone raises their hands.
